We live in a time of rupture. The institutions and frameworks that once anchored us nationally, globally, communally, have come undone. And yet, in every corner of our existence, there are sparks of creativity and the actions of the deeply determined to build anew. Prophecy exists to gather those sparks and fan them into flame.

What We’re Looking For: We are interested in contributions that will engage deeply with a core structural aspect of our future, and each quarterly edition will collate contributions according to one theme. Whether it concerns the Jewish character of the State, the shape of our economy, the inclusion of minorities, or how we reckon with AI, Prophecy pieces should do three things:

  • Illuminate what is broken

    • Begin by explaining a structural or conceptual problem harming our People. What are its implications? Why does the continued existence of this break harm our ability to realize our collective potential? How does it conflict with our values?

    • Avoid blame. Avoid partisanship. Do not name names. Speak to the system, the assumption, the worldview that needs to be reconsidered. While not everyone will agree, try as much as possible to frame the challenge broadly enough so everyone can feel affected by it and want to be part of the solution.

  • Articulate what should be

    • Offer a vision for an alternative grounded in our tradition, and explore its practical implications: how does everyday life work in a world where your vision has been realized? Why does this set us up better for taking on the challenges before us?

    • Whenever possible, draw on the canon: biblical texts, rabbinic sources, early Zionist essays. Show us how these ideas can guide us forward.

  • Point a way forward

    • Offer how we might begin to walk the path toward the vision you describe.

    • This need not be a full plan or blueprint, but it should at least hint at the tools we will need, the mindset we must adopt, or the coalitions we must build.

    • Tell the reader how they may will your dream into reality.

Formats and Submissions: We are looking for a range of formats, spanning the following:

  • Essays (1200–1600 words)

  • Short stories (up to 2000 words)

  • Poetry

  • Visual works (art, comics, photography)

  • Audio/video (songs, podcasts, visual media)

You may write in English or Hebrew. If selected for the quarterly edition, the piece will be translated and published in both. If not, with your permission, it will be published digitally in the original. Submissions should respond to the issue’s central question and must be original work.

Compensation and ownership: While the first issues may be volunteer-driven, we are building a model for cooperative ownership and shared revenue. Contributors will receive a share of the profits from each issue, and once revenue stabilizes, we will move to fixed contributor rates. We believe in transparency and will use open budget tools to ensure collective accountability.

Why write for Prophecy: A century ago, Jews gathered in cafes, printing houses, and tea salons to imagine a future not yet born. They wrote to one another across languages, across continents, across ideological divides. They did not agree, but they built. Prophecy is our attempt to kindle that fire once more.

If you are reading this, you know we need that same creativity today. You are not alone. By joining us, you will stand alongside others who are searching, struggling, and striving to rebuild.
